Understanding Teen Dating Violence
Teen dating violence isn’t always physical. In fact, it often begins with emotional or digital behaviors that can be harder to recognize. Early awareness can prevent escalation and save lives.
Forms of dating violence include:
- Emotional Abuse – insults, guilt, pressure, isolation
- Digital Abuse – controlling social media, demanding passwords
- Physical Abuse – hitting, pushing, grabbing, threats
- Sexual Coercion – pressure, manipulation, force
Teens deserve relationships built on safety, respect, and choice – not fear or control.
Common Warning Signs
- Jealousy or possessiveness
- Isolation from friends or family
- Constant texting or monitoring
- Pressure to send private photos
- Insults, name-calling, or put-downs
- Fear of upsetting the other person
- Sudden personality changes
- Feeling guilty for setting boundaries
Note:
These signs may appear slowly and can be easy to overlook. Our programs help teens understand and respond to them safely.
